Coton House Farm Wedding Photography
Remember earlier in the year when we were complaining about how hot it was? Well, as I sit here in the home studio (which we here at Chez Smyth have dubbed ‘The Production Pit’), I am currently yearning to go back to temperatures that don’t require me to dig out the thermal socks! One thing keeping me nice and warm is thinking about being Katie & Tom’s wedding photographer at Coton House Farm in Lichfield – a stunning wedding venue nestled in the Staffordshire village of Whittington.
Katie & Tom wanted me for just a few hours on their big day to cover the key moments of their wedding. At least, that’s what they told me – if I was to be the kind of person that would align myself with the typical conspiracy theorist, I’d think it was so that there wouldn’t be any photographic evidence of the dodgy dancing later on in the evening!
Suspicions aside, I rocked up to The Stables at Coton House Farm as Katie and the girls were just finishing getting ready. Katie’s Bridal squad grabbed their bouquets from The Flower House before mingling with the guests who were already congregating outside. Before the big show though, there was a quick moment for Katie’s dad to see his daughter for the first time in her stunning wedding dress from Wed2B before we all made our way to The Old Dairy Barn for the I Do’s, where Tom was waiting for his beautiful Bride.
With the rings exchanged and the register signed (as well as a guest appearance from Coby the Pug!), everyone made their way outside into the sweltering sun for the throwing of confetti before rushing to the shade of the Oak Terrace Patio. Thankfully, the staff at Coton House Farm were on hand with the drinks to keep everybody cool! While friends and family caught up, I went inside The Oak Barn to admire how fantastically styled it was by Make It Special Events.
Despite the sun trying it’s best to break the ‘hottest day ever’ record, Katie & Tom were well up for their first portrait session. Like a lot of my clients, these two told me that they didn’t feel comfortable in front of the camera, but it really didn’t take long for them to find their groove. Katie & Tom spent the entire time laughing and having fun, and it was a joy to be their wedding photographer – even if I did end up with a sunburned forehead!
It wasn’t too long before Katie, Tom and their guests made their way into The Oak Barn for a glorious three course meal. After the speeches were done, I grabbed the new Mr. & Mrs. one final time for a few more photos. This time though, we did something a little bit different. We snook out the back of Coton House Farm, and took a walk up a dirt road (while avoiding mountains of horse poo in the process!).
After a few minutes of wandering (with me repeatedly promising that it’ll be worth it), we ended up in a huge field that gave us some amazing opportunities to get some epic wedding photography! Katie even added a touch of bad-ass to the equation, thanks to the bespoke leather jacket from Kate Illustrate.
It was an absolute pleasure to spend the day with Katie & Tom as their Coton House Farm wedding photographer. These two are as fun as they are chilled, and despite their expectations of being awkward in front of the camera, they absolutely nailed their portraits. Mr. & Mrs. Sutton, I salute you!
